Premium Mailcentres process within one working day. Economy Hubs forward mail onward for processing with a 5–7 day turnaround. You choose your speed-versus-cost trade-off upfront.
Published handling fees are marked clearly: 90p per letter, £4 per parcel up to 20kg, 80p per scanned page. We noted that forwarding adds a 30% markup to postage and courier costs, which isn't a problem locally, but over distance, it adds up fast. If you're forwarding regularly to Bangkok, that 30% could become a sore spot.
They have premium mail centres available in Country Antrim, Shropshire, Cambridgeshire, Pembrokeshire and London (Amhurst House). Mail is processed as soo as it arrives at these locations.

Office Clerk's is a low-thrills virtual postbox that is used for both mailbox rental and businesses operating in the UK.
They are quite clear with their pricing, offering PAYG examples that most competitors don't. A letter received on the free plan - receiving fee 90p, envelope scan 90p, one page scanned 90p - total £2.70. You can use this to model costs against your expected volume. Ten letters a month is £27. Twenty is £54. You can see immediately whether PAYG or a bundled package makes more sense for you.
The free PO box is a nice entry point, and the scan-and-upload flow is relatively straightforward.
The limitation is the same as any PAYG model: if you get regular post, the per-item charges accumulate faster than you'd expect. And while they do offer Virtual Address, remember that the cheaper PO box addresses can be refused by some organisations - many banks and government bodies will insist on a street address.

MyUKMailbox is a parcel forwarding service, not a mail scanning service.
If your main problem is, say, "I want to order from ASOS and John Lewis but they won't ship to Lisbon", this is a good tool. You can use it for parcel storage, courier choice, consolidation, repacking, a BuyForMe service - it's built for shopping logistics.
But it NOT a traditional virtual postbox.
Plans run from free (Starter) to £14.99/month (Premium) with varying storage days and consolidation fees. The dashboard workflow is user-friendly and pretty straightforward.
Just be aware that if your priority is scanned letters - bank statements, HMRC notices, pension letters and so on - you'll be happier with a provider whose entire business is 'mail as documents' rather than 'parcels as logistics'.
Use it for what it's good at, and pair it with UK Postbox or Ghost Mail for your letter admin.

What a virtual postbox solves (and what it doesn't)
A virtual postbox is useful for keeping a UK correspondence address while you're abroad. That’s the number one reason why most expats use them.
They offer quick access to scanned letters, somewhere for HMRC and pension providers to write to, a way to keep UK admin ticking over without relying on your mum or your mate Dave to open your post and read it down the phone.
Yes, there are some Brits who rely on such arrangements!
It also means you can deal with bank letters, NHS correspondence, DVLA reminders, and random old Tesco Clubcard statements without being physically present in your old house to receive them.
To be clear though:
It is not a workaround for everything that requires a residential address.
Ghost Mail explicitly bans use for driving licence applications, vehicle registration, or registering to vote… and they're right to.
They're trying not to end up in a regulatory bonfire, and you should be trying not to end up in a legal one.
If your goal is "look like I still live in the UK" for something that requires actual residency, the goalposts are narrowing rapidly and what worked a few years ago isn’t going to work for much longer.
That's a different problem with a different (and usually more expensive) solution.
How to choose without getting stung by fees
Well, for starters… most people compare the wrong numbers.
A £0/month plan can be expensive if every scan is billed separately.
A "cheap address" becomes pricey if forwarding carries a markup.
The headline price is all marketing; the total cost depends on your actual mail volume and what you do with it. Always compare the numbers of the add-ons that you’ll actually be using!
Prioritise these five things, roughly in this order:
- Address type - street address vs PO box. Check whether the organisations you need to notify will accept the type you're getting. Banks and HMRC can be extremely fussy (as you probably already know!).
- Scan model - does the price cover the envelope scan, per-page scans, or both? What happens once you exceed your plan allowance? Some charge per page, some per side. Some, like UKPostbox, let you optionally decide what gets scanned - to save on scanning junk.
- Forwarding costs - there's usually a handling fee on top of actual postage. Some providers mark up Royal Mail rates by 30% or more. If you're forwarding regularly to Southeast Asia, those extra costs can stack up fast.
- Storage rules - 30 days free physical storage is common, then daily or weekly charges kick in. We’ve personally made the mistake of allowing mail to stack up only to get hit with recurring daily storage charges for mails left unopened. Ultimately, if you're slow to action your post, this matters!
- Compliance and privacy stance - do they verify identity properly? Do they have a particular position on reading or analysing your mail contents? Is it handled with AI? These questions are worth asking.
The ID checks
From the providers above, both UK Postbox and Expost outline clear identity verification for anti-money-laundering compliance.
Ghost Mail frames it under post-Economic Crime Act reforms and their role as an Authorised Corporate Service Provider.
The London Local Authorities Act framework includes specific provisions about mail forwarding businesses. None of this is optional or particularly unusual - it's the regulatory times that we live in.
If you can't pass ID checks (say from an expired passport - unlikely for expats, no utility bills in your name, address history gaps), your "instant setup" might be instant in name only.
We recommend you get your documents in order before you sign up, not after you've already redirected your post when the you-know-what hits the fan.
And from a cost perspective, pick the plan that matches your actual mail volume, not the cheapest headline price.
